Suffolk County Community College (SCCC) is dedicated to providing diverse opportunities for lifelong learning and inspiring student success. SCCC has a refund policy that is in line with the State University of New York policy for community colleges.
Credit can be awarded for courses that have been successfully completed with a grade of C or higher, or courses that are considered equivalent to SCCC courses. Enrollment status is granted to all students who are admitted to a degree or certificate program at SCCC.The Perfect Transfer Initiative, implemented by the State University of New York (SUNY), helps students who have earned an A. Additionally, members of the RASCC (Retired Suffolk County Community College Employees) can receive college bills for sports center membership. This includes retired SCCC employees, spouses of deceased university employees, and other former employees, at the discretion of RASCC membership.The Liberty Partnerships Program (LPP) at SCCC represents a cooperative effort between the university, the Longwood Central School District, government agencies and businesses and industry to provide a unique, comprehensive and supportive environment for students who may be at risk of dropping out of school.
Through this program, students can receive scholarships to pursue their studies.When a CLEP exam is not available to assess previous learning in a course or subject offered at SCCC, the student may request, and the College may agree, prepare and administer a special challenge exam for the student. Additionally, SCCC offers a short course of the University Entrance Program in Science and Technology (CSTEP). This four-day introductory short course on bioinformatics is taught at the Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) during the winter school holidays.Students enrolled in a program that has been reviewed have the option to meet the program requirements in effect when they were accepted into the program, or they can choose to switch to the new program requirements. Suffolk is also home to the Hunter Regional Training Center, which provides working service technicians with the opportunity to continue their education in Suffolk through Hunter.Firefighters with a bachelor's or master's degree will receive higher salaries in some fire departments, but not all.
